UAE efforts to fight tuberculosis are bearing fruits.
On the occasion of the world day of anti-tuberculosis contamination, the Health Minister Hamad Abd al Rahman al Midfa announced that disease incident rate is 5 for every 100,000 people, al Ittihad daily reports.
The minister said that measures adopted by the ministry have proven successful in combating TB. These measures include checking expatriates before they enter the country, routine examinations of children and pupils in schools in addition to infant vaccinations. He added that the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked the UAE in the category where TB prevalence is low. There are now contacts with the WHO to introduce a new comprehensive program in order to reduce the incidence to 1 per 100,000 people by the end of 2010.
