Tunisia's ruling Islamist party announced Friday that it has accepted plans outlining the construction of a reformed government that would resolve the country's two-month-old political crisis, according to AFP.
The plan, proposed Tuesday by mediators from Tunisia's UGTT labor union, calls for a national dialogue between ruling and opposition parties, as well as the concession from the Islamist-led government to replace itself in three weeks with independent cabinet figures. The plan also includes timetables for adopting a new constitution and holding elections, with the requirement that the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) approve an electoral law and the details of the parliamentary poll.
The opposition has not yet declared its position on the plans, but has previously criticized the government for not improving the social conditions in Tunisia. THe UGTT is scheduled to hold a Saturday morning press conference to discuss the latest updates associated with the implementation of the plan.
