While Tunisia's Islamist Ennahda Party vowed to work for the establishment of a pluralistic and secular society and respecting for human rights, dozens of people protested Tuesday in the capital of Tunisia. This came as unofficial results indicated that the Islamist Party took the lead in the first free election, which were held on Sunday. Ennahda is expected to win nearly 40 percent of the vote.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against the Ennahda and also slamming the current government for what they claimed "excesses of party funding."
Meanwhile, Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has congratulated the Tunisian people on the victory of Ennahda. According to Press TV, Larijani noted that the victory reflected the "enthusiasm of Tunisians for upholding Islamic principles."
