Tunisian forces hunt for armed group after shooting attack

A large sweeping campaign has been conducted by security and military units since Monday in Ain Zayane, Sbiba (governorate of Kasserine) to track down an armed group suspected of having attacked and killed a woman on Sunday.

The son of the victim said he was shot at on Sunday afternoon by hooded gunmen as he was in a car with his mother and sister in the locality of Ain Zayane.

He told TAP correspondent his mother, 60, was hit by  bullets in her shoulder and succumbed to her injuries before arriving at the local hospital in Sbiba.

“She was hit in the left shoulder and suffered a serious haemorrhage that led to her death,” a medical source in the local hospital in Kasserine said, adding that the bullet was extracted from the victim’s body and handed to the security units to determine its origin.”

“Investigations continue to check the statements of the victims’ son, the origin of the gunfire and the cause of the death,” spokesperson for the Interior Ministry Yasser Mesbah told TAP on Sunday.

After this incident, the local residents called for bolstering security, saying this was not the first attack committed in the region.
