ALBAWABA - Following meetings in Moscow to revive the Black Sea grain deal, Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan will be visiting Tehran to meet with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Fidan is set to meet with his Iranian counterpart Abdollahian to exchange views on regional and international issues. "The visit will render the opportunity to discuss the possibilities for further advancing our bilateral cooperation in all fields with Iran," the statement reads.

The talks between Turkey's Fidan and Iran's Abdollahian are expected to cover a wide variety of topics, including regional stability, security, and recent geopolitical developments in the region.

This visit comes as a part of a diplomatic tour Fidan is taking to strengthen Turkey's ties with a number of countries across the region including Lebanon and Syria.

Fidan's visit to Moscow

During his 2-day visit to Russia, Fidan met with a number of Russian senior officials including Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, as Ankara steps up efforts to influence Russia to return to the Black Sea deal.

Prior to meeting with Shoigu, Fidan met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, where both ministers discussed another potential prisoner swap in the ongoing Russian-Ukranian war and the meeting between their leaders Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, which Turkish sources said would take place on September 4, Daily Sabah reported.

Fidan highlighted the significance of meeting Russia's demands for the export of its own agricultural products and foods during a news conference with Lavrov.

"With the intense efforts and contributions of our country, the UN has prepared a new proposal package. We think that this will be a suitable base for the revival of the initiative," Said Fidan in a joint press conference with Lavrov.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which blocked the country's grain exports, Turkey and the United Nations mediated a deal between Kyiv and Moscow last year, allowing for the continuity of Ukraine's grain exports to the world.

According to the European Union, Ukraine supplied half of the world's sunflower oil and was one of the top ten exporters of barley, maize, and wheat.
