Turkey's military is preparing for a major reshuffle of its top commanders.

The Supreme Military Council plans to replace the commanders of the navy and air force during its scheduled meeting on Friday. The move is expected to be accompanied by the resignation of several high-level army commanders.

Turkish government sources and media reports said the military shakeup is in the framework of the military's plan to streamline its forces.

In addition, they said the General Staff has been under immense pressure from Erdogan’s government to adopt European Union (EU) membership criteria set for Ankara. (Albawaba.com)
