The death toll in a tragic mine explosion in eastern Turkey rose to seven on Saturday as rescuers found the bodies of the last two miners who remained trapped under debris, according to officials.

Five bodies were recovered on Friday from the pit in the province of Erzurum after a methane explosion brought down a gallery at a depth of 500 meters where the miners were working.

"The bodies were trapped under large pieces of stone," Yalcin Mumcu, the head of the civil defense team working at the site told Anatolia news agency of the two bodies recovered on Saturday.

Twenty-four other miners were rescued on Friday, the office of the Erzurum governor said in a statement, carried by Anatolia. One of them was said to be seriously injured. (Albawaba.com)
