The deputy leader of Turkey's opposition Saadet Party, Veysel Candan, claimed Wednesday that the terrorist attacks on the United States were actually planned by the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad.

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament Tuesday, Candan said that any military operation carried out before the guilty had been properly identified would fuel hatred and enmity.

He added that thousands of people would die in the attack, making it an act of terrorism as well, according to the Turkish Daily News.

He likened President Bush's remarks that he wanted bin Laden "dead or alive' to a cowboy mentality.

Candan said the United States and its allies had to question themselves first and added:

"The terrorist attack was carried out without outside intervention. It was completely domestic. Therefore, they should look at those who fought in Vietnam. We believe the attack was planned by Mossad together with moles in the FBI and CIA."

Candan said the United States and its allies should review their policies toward Israel and the Middle East and should abandon their policies of putting poor countries further into debt.

He also called on these countries to stop supporting terrorist groups.

He added that, rather than getting dragged into another military venture, Turkey should discuss every step of the military operation in Parliament, said the paper – Albawaba.com
