Poverty line for a standard family of four individuals rose to TL655,932,000 in March, a study carried out by public workers union Kamu-Sen revealed Sunday. The threshold had stood at TL489,718,000 in March last year, The Turkish Daily News reported, noting that the minimum food spending necessary for healthy nourishment for a family of four rose by 38.46 percent year-on-year in March to TL223,757,000.
Spending on household equipment was excluded from the index as individuals have been avoiding such expenditures, Kamu-Sen said.
Monthly income for an average lower middle class family varies between TL200 million and TL500 million. 48 percent of Turkey's population belongs to this class while their share of the national income is only 32.5 percent – Albawaba.com
