Turkish President Ahmed Necdet Sezer arrived in Amman late Tuesday for a three-day visit during which he will have talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan, an official source said.
The worsening situation in the Palestinian territories, and the strengthening of bilateral relations will be at the heart of these talks which get underway Wednesday, the source added.
Sezer, who has condemned the use of "excessive" force by Israeli troops against Palestinians, arrived from Doha where he attended the Islamic summit with King Abdullah.
He was greeted on arrival by the Jordanian monarch.
Amman and Ankara enjoy good relations in many areas, including defense. The two countries are linked by an annual program of joint training and cooperation the arms industry.
During a visit to Turkey in March by King Abdullah, Ankara said it would provide water to Jordan, whose resources are very limited, as part of a regional project called 'the water of peace,' which includes Israel and the Palestinians, although no agreement has yet been reached.
The two countries also decided during that visit to raise their annual bilateral trade to a billion dollars. It was more than 200 million dollars in 1999.-- AMMAN (AFP)
