Turkish president ends Syria visit

Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and wife left Damascus on Thursday following a two-day official visit to Syria. The visit was held after Ankara rebuffed American pressure to cancel it.

 

In the second day of their visit , President Sezer and wife visited the Unknown Soldier Memorial on Qassion Mount in Damascus , accompanied by Ministers of Tourism and Expatriates. According to SANA, the Turkish president and wife also visited the Omayad Mosque where they were briefed on the history of the mosque.

 

On Wednesday, Sezer described his visit to Syria as an “indication of the advanced Syrian-Turkish relations based on mutual respect and dialogue.”

 

In a statement at Esenboga Airport in Ankara before heading for Damascus, President Sezer said the visit will deal with all dimensions of relations between Syria and Turkey. “The visit will help achieve peace and stability in the Middle East”, the President added.
