Turkey’s Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit left hospital Monday after an 11-day stay that sparked speculation with regards to early elections that might endanger Turkey's recovery from a deep economic crisis.
Ecevit, who turns 77 on Tuesday, was admitted to hospital suffering from a cracked rib and an inflamed leg vein, after another hospital stay for an intestinal infection about two weeks earlier.
"I am fine and I am on duty," Ecevit said after walking out of hospital to the applause of party supporters.
He dismissed his hospitalization as "unimportant" and said some minor problems remained in his leg and foot, according to AFP.
Officials said he would go to his private office in Ankara and hold a press conference on Tuesday to mark the third anniversary of his government, an unusual three-way coalition of center-left, far-right and center-right parties. (Albawaba.com)
