A Turkish prosecutor on Monday demanded up to 10 years in prison for the leader of one of the country's most influential Muslim groups on charges of plotting to establish an Islamic state, according to Anatolia news agency.

Fethullah Gulen, 65, on trial in absentia since 2000, "has set up an illegal organization with the aim of changing the constitutional system and replacing it with a state based on Islamic rules and has undertaken activities in this direction," the prosecutor said as he presented his final arguments in the case at an Ankara state security court.

Gulen, who has been in the US for the past several years for medical treatment, should be sentenced to between five and ten years in jail, he said.

Moreover, the prosecutor asked the court to issue an arrest warrant in absentia for the leader of the most influential faction of the Nur brotherhood. (Albawaba.com)
