Twelve African migrants drown off the Egyptian coast

Twelve migrants were drowned when a boat sank during an illegal crossing to Europe.

The alarm was raised after the body of a victim was found in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Mastaroh village, Kafr al-Sheikh governate, Egypt.

The body was later revealed to be that of a young man of African origin. His identity remains unknown. The prosecution ordered for the body to be transferred to the morgue of Kafr al-Sheikh Public Hospital for autopsy. It will be kept there until it has been identified.

On Thursday, Egyptian armed forces recovered the bodies of nine drowned migrants of African origin. One was a woman. The victims has been on board a sailing boat illegally bound for Italy. 127 migrants of different nationalities have been arrested by Egyptian authorities.
