Two Iranian asylum-seekers were severely beaten up by a gang of teenagers in an apparent “racial attack” late Sunday night in the eastern German town of Schneeberg, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The two unidentified Iranians were on their way home when a group
of 20 to 25 teenagers assaulted them with sticks and foot kicks.
One of the Iranians was taken to a hospital with head injuries and a broken finger, said the agency.
Police were looking for suspects and did not rule out racial motives for the attack.
Last May, another Iranian was hospitalized following an attack by a small group of neo-Nazis in the north German city of Hanover.
Germany has seen a dramatic rise in bloody anti-foreigner assaults over the past ten years, killing at least 28 people and injuring
thousands of them.
Most of the attacks occur in the eastern part of Germany where foreigners are blamed for the high unemployment rate.
