Two schools remain in contention to be crowned the inaugural winner of the ‘Pepsi Howzzat’ under-18s cricket tournament.
Arab Unity and Pakistan Islamia School (Sharjah) will contest the final of the tournament, being staged at Global Village, which is part of the Pepsi Sports Fiesta and has attracted 32 of the best school teams from within the UAE.
Arab Unity will consider themselves fortunate to have advanced through to the final. Finding themselves 9 wickets down and chasing 165 runs to win, Rameez (Arab Unity) hit four 6s off the last over on his way to 78 runs.
Indian High School (Dubai) will see this as a game that they had at their mercy, only to see it slip away after using up their more experienced bowlers earlier in the innings.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Islamia School (Sharjah) continued to dominate. Scoring 8/236 runs off their allotted 25 overs, St Mary’s Catholic School were never in contention before finally being bowled out for 156 runs. Man of the Match was Rohan Mustafa (Pakistan Islamia) with 50 runs, 2 catches and 2 stumpings.
Looking ahead to the February 17 final. Arab Unity have the experience of winning tournaments but Pakistan Islamia are coming into the final with some excellent victories over strong teams.
