Several insurance companies in the UAE have been blacklisted by some leading automobile dealerships for repeated delays or non-payment of claims for damage repairs made at their workshops, the Gulf News reported in its weekend issue.

"Insurers have often delayed payments beyond the normal 90-day credit, but the last few months have seen a sharp increase in such cases at our workshop," a senior manager with a local auto dealership was quoted by the daily as complaining.

"We have repeatedly brought the matter to the attention of the insurers, but saw no improvement. This is why we had to blacklist them," quoting a senior manager with another dealer as saying, "there are some insurers who have defaulted on claim payments, which has led to their credit facilities being withdrawn.”

Some insurers now say they will pay for repairs only after the policy is a year old, the newspaper said -- Albawaba.com
