Officials at UAE’s Sharjah have announced that the emirate is free of foot and mouth disease, reported the Gulf News.
"No foot and mouth disease cases have been spotted in the emirate so far, and all the animals in the local markets and farms are fit," municipality director-general, Ahmed Mohammed Fikri, said.
“The municipality will continue its intensive precautionary measures in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the General Secretariat of Municipalities” he said in a statement.
Last month, around 151 animals, including goats and cows, were killed in Dubai following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
UAE had announced the discovery of at least 22 cases of the disease.
The disease also hit UAE's neighbor, Saudi Arabia.
A ban on imports of meat and dairy products from Britain has been in effect in the two Gulf states since the outbreak of the disease.
The disease also hit Iran, Turkey and Palestine - Albawaba.com
