UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan called Israel’s claims of ‘self-defense’ baseless.

Sheikh Zayed made these comments during a meeting with William Burns, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs. He made the comments in reference to Israel’s policy of assassinations, the latest of which killed Raed El-Karmi, a leader in the Fatah organization.

Burns and Zayed met to discuss the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the international campaign against terror. The Sheikh called upon the U.S. to call to an end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

"The continuation of the serious situation prevailing in the occupied Palestinian territories as a result of the aggressive Israeli policies which claim the lives of many of the Palestinian people poses a threat to the security of all countries in the region and international efforts aimed at accomplishing a comprehensive and just peace," Sheikh Zayed added.

Zayed called for international observers to monitor and separate the Palestinians and Israelis, and to protect the Palestinian people from “brutal acts of aggression.”

President Zayed also met with President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen to update him on the latest situation in the Palestinian territories. The two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties. (Albawaba.com)
