Two innovative additions that will enhance UAE’s Thuraya mobile phone will be available shortly, a senior official said Saturday.

The vehicular docking adapter (VDA) will permit recharging and in-vehicle operation, and the home docking unit (Hodu) will enable use of the phone indoors in remote areas, he said, quoted by the Gulf News.

Meanwhile, Thuraya, which is in the soft launch phase in the Gulf state and several other countries, will start commercial services late this month, the official said.

"The VDA and the Hodu are in the manufacturing stage and should be available within a few months. They will provide superior service for moving vehicles and also can change the phone into the indoor satellite system offering the full range of Thuraya services."

The VDA comes in handy when a user is driving, and the Hodu is useful in a remote area which has no mobile or landline facility but does have electricity.

It can be plugged into the socket and the phone can then be placed into the Hodu slot to make it operational.

It provides a station for the hand-held terminal (HHT) recharging and in-vehicle operations, he added.

The VDA has an integrated speakerphone, radio mute capability, voice mute button, volume controls and external auxiliary handset.

Its package includes external GSM, GPS and satellite external antennas, connectors and RF cables – Albawaba.com
