The UAE debating team participating in the World Schools Debating Championship held in the State of Qatar came first among Arab participating countries while ranking 27 worldwide.
The competitions in which the Emirati Team participated during the 2010 WSDC were highly competitive and reflected the high level of teams participating in the Championship.
Debating experts participating in the debates praised the level of the Emirati Team stressing that the team showed unprecedented levels given the few international debating competitions it participated in.
In a statement on the occasion of the participation of the Emirati team in the 2010 WSDC, Dr. Hayat Maarafi, Executive Director of the QatarDebate Center, expressed her pleasure in the participation of the Emirati Team in the Championship and praised the high level and commitment of the team members throughout the Championship confirming that the Emirati Team is moving in the right direction in developing its competing levels to be able to compete in all international forums.
Commenting on the Team’s ranking first on the Arab level and 27th on the international level Maarafi said that this is another milestone to be added to the many achievements of the Emirati Team. She also said that the Emirati Team presented excellent debating levels during the Championship.
Dr. Maarafi also expressed her hope that Emirati Team will continue its debate training to achieve advanced international rankings in the upcoming championships.
On their part, the members of the Emirati Team expressed their happiness in ranking first on the Arab level and 27th on the international level, stressing that this achievement was a blessing from God and noted their intention in pursuing their journey to raise the name of the United Arab Emirates in all international forums.
They also commended the welcome they received from their brothers in the State of Qatar, especially the officials of the QatarDebate Center, and the support and encouragement they received during their participation in the Championship that included delegations from 57 countries. The Championship hosted by Qatar was held for the first time in an Arab country. It was organized by QatarDebate Center with the significant support of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
