UAE forces rescue British hostage from al-Qaeda in Yemen: state news

Emirati forces based in Yemen's southern port city of Aden have have rescued a British hostage who was held by al-Qaeda, UAE's state news agency WAM reported.

UK national Douglas Robert Semple, 64 years old, went missing in February 2014 when he was working as a petroleum engineer in the Hadramaut area, according to WAM.

Semple was flown to Abu Dhabi by a military plane Saturday night and taken to a hospital for health checks. He was greeted at the airport by UAE officials and the British ambassador, WAM reported.
