The UAE is likely to ban peanut butter products imported from the UK, reported Khaleej Times.
An official at the General Secretariat of Municipalities was quoted as saying that a decision on whether to ban these products or withdraw the quantities already available in local markets was being studied.
The move followed a decision by Kuwaiti authorities on Tuesday to ban import of peanut butter products suspected to be containing aflatoxin.
A source at the Food and Environment Control Centre of Abu Dhabi Municipality (FECC) told the paper that “so far there was no precautionary measure to remove UK-produced suspected peanuts products from the edible market, saying that such a measure could be taken only after thorough investigation in the local market and laboratory tests are carried out.”
