A UAE national who was arrested on November 5 for spying on Libyan authorities was an ex-sergeant, AFP reports.
The suspect, who remains unnamed and is still being questioned, was dismissed by Dubai’s police force five years ago.
"He claims to be a businessman and to have no ties to the Dubai police but intelligence agents found pictures on his phone of sensitive locations in Tripoli, including a video of the Turkish embassy," head of the prosecutor general’s office in Tripoli told AFP.
Dubai police chief Khamis al-Muzainah called allegations of the suspect’s links to the force “false and far away from truth,” on his Twitter.
The incident comes after UN special envoy to Libya, Bernardino Leon, accepted a role with a government-funded body in the UAE, stirring controversy.
