The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) on Saturday distributed for the second consecutive day its urgent relief aid to the Afghan refugees in Kabul.
The RCS distributed 285 tons of food items, medicines and 10,000 blankets to the displaced persons in the Afghan capital.
The move is part of the RCS relief assistance campaign, which was launched by the directives of President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to help alleviate the sufferings of the Afghan people, said the Emirates’ official news agency (WAM).
According to Mohammed Habroosh Al Rumaithy, RCS board member, the delegation toured a number of places in the city to acquaint themselves with the situation of the displaced persons.
Rumaithy, who is heading the team, lamented the very bad situation of the Afghan refugees and displaced persons after the RCS delegation toured a number of orphanages, centers for the handicapped and hospitals.
The official told WAM that the UAE relief convoy would continue to deliver relief assistance in line with the directives of Sheikh Zayed and with the close follow-up of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the minister of state for foreign affairs and chairman of the RCS.
The UAE RCS has dispatched four planeloads of various relief supplies to Afghan refugees who are stranded at the Afghanistan-Iran border.
The RCS has already started setting up a 40,000-person capacity refugee camp in Shimen on the Pakistani side of the border as waves of refugees from US bombing continue to flood to the area, it added – Albawaba.com
