Dr. Amna Khalifa, Director of the Ajman based Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Establishment for Human Development and an UAE University Professor told Gulf News Monday that women comprise 48.5 percent of the national population. UAE women nowadays are being pushed to play a greater role in public life in order to advance the nation’s development.

Women are being urged to take a more active part in community affairs, side by side with their traditional position of taking care of their families. According to the Islamic belief, women have the right to their own opinion on a wide set of matters and not only in their homes, as commonly thought, she said. They also have the right to act upon their feelings, as long as they maintain their honor and dignity and behave according to Islamic tradition.

Dr. Amna stated that women should become more involved in social and cultural events and make more decisions rather than only implementing ones that have been already made. (Albawaba.com)
