UK’s top security personnel have warned the British parliament of an “almost inevitable” militant attack in the country over the “acute” levels of terror activities.
An RT report says the Scotland Yard and the MI5 have intercepted three separate plots in London in the past 12 weeks alone. Two of the emergency raids were conducted against suspected terrorists who were allegedly preparing to carry out such attacks.
Now some believe the British government’s media hype about “extremists” within the country’s Muslim community has even made the matters worse.
Political commentator Haseeb Rizvi says: “Britain also amplifies the noises from extremist elements within the Muslim community deliberately to garner more attention toward that viewpoint and this basically bubbles up in towards more extremist feelings.”
Rizvi noted that the UK government needs to publicly denounce its relationship with countries that support terrorist groups in the Middle East.
“Once it stops being critical on its stance against terrorism and extremism, then Britain will be serious about being able to stop pushing people towards extremism,” he went on to say.
This is while hundreds of British extremists are said to have returned from Syria, with their movements being closely monitored by security agencies.
Back in August, the MI5 raised the UK terrorist threat level to “severe,” the second highest out of five grades, meaning that an attack is “highly likely.”
More than 220 suspected terrorists have been arrested in the UK so far this year, according to the Home Office.
