ALBAWABA - AFP reported on Wednesday that the Ukrainian government claimed the assassination of a Russian proxy politician.
During a car bombing in the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, a Russian-backed politician was killed in an official operation.
Ukraine's military intelligence directorate said in a statement it conducted a "special operation to eliminate" Mikhail Filiponenko, working "jointly with representatives of the resistance movement."
A few hours following the attack, the military intelligence directorate of Ukraine declared that it had conducted a "special operation to eliminate" Filiponenko, collaborating "jointly with representatives of the resistance movement."
Since Russia began its invasion in February of last year, a number of prominent supporters of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and officials stationed in Moscow have come under attack; nevertheless, Kyiv has rarely directly acknowledged any blame for the attacks.
Filiponenko was the previous leader of a separatist force supported by Moscow that was established in 2014 to oppose Kyiv. He also served as a legislator in the regional parliament of Lugansk.
