Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Leonid Borodich was killed Saturday when he crashed the plane he was piloting during an air acrobatics display in the suburbs of Kiev, the ministry for emergency situations announced.

Borodich, a 47-year-old general, was alone on board the Russian-manufactured Yak-52, which came down from a height of 150 meters (450 feet) into a wood, a ministry spokesman said.

First indications were that the accident was caused by pilot error.

Borodich, a father of two, had held his job since 1994 -- KIEV(AFP)
