umniah honors winners of the united nations college scholarships


Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain and the newest provider of mobile phone services in Jordan, honored a group of outstanding students who had won scholarships from the United World Colleges which are awarded every year to outstanding students from around the world in order to promote world peace.

During the ceremony, which was under the patronage of His Excellency the Minster of Education Dr. Khaled Touqan, and attended by His Excellency Dr. Munther al Masri Head of the National Committee for United World Colleges, and His Excellency Dr. Tayseer al Na’eemi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Joseph Hanania, CEO of Umniah, honored the students who had won the scholarships as part of the company’s goals to single out outstanding young people and support the youth segment in the kingdom.

Mr. Hanania said, ‘We at Umniah are honored to pay tribute to this group of outstanding Jordanian students who has stood out from the competition which included all the schools in the kingdom. I congratulate them and their families on this major achievement so early on in their lives which will place them in the top world-class institutions. We will eagerly await their return home to witness the bright futures they will create for themselves, their families and their country.  Today we are in the age of knowledge, the age of achievements invented by bright minds like these we see before us and that we are celebrating today.’ He added, ‘We are particularly supportive of the idea of the United World Colleges, not just because they gather the elite of students from around the globe, but for their philosophy that builds world peace and is based on the idea of respecting others and accepting the ideas of others in an objective atmosphere that is based on respect for human beings.’

The students honored in the ceremony are from schools in different districts throughout the kingdom. They are: Ghassan Jaradat, Amer Khreisat, Yacoub                     Al-Shomali, Noor Al-Shedeifat, Batool Ibrahim, Aseel Kreishan, and Firas Fasheh.

It is noted that the United World Colleges include 13 colleges in different continents in countries including Britain, Italy, the USA, Canada, Norway, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, and Venezuela.  Students from all over the world study at the colleges with the aim of spreading the idea of peace and understanding between nations.  Students usually graduate from these scholarship programs to attend the best international universities and then return home to serve their countries.
