United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan plans on paying a courtesy and social visit to Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash while the latter is recuperating in New York, Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Fred Eckhard said on Wednesday.

He said the UN Secretary General informed him Wednesday morning, "that it is his intention to try to see Mr. Denktash by the end of this week, if they can find a mutual time. So, I think he is hoping to visit him. This is going to be just a private visit to wish him quick recovery", Cyprus News agency reported.

Meanwhile, Eckhard was not in a position to say whether the Secretary-General intends to invite Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides to New York for talks in the next couple of days, the agency added.
