Fighting and violence in Iraq killed at least 1,375 people in January, the United Nations said on Sunday.

Reuters reported that the dead included 790 cilvilians and 585 members of the Iraqi army. The country's army has faced problems rebuilding itself after Daesh militants seized large swathes of the country last year.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said that at least 2,240 civilians and soldiers were wounded during the same period.

UNAMI said the worst affected city was the capital, Baghdad, where 256 civilians were killed and 758 wounded. At least 2,240 civilians and soldiers were wounded during the same period.

The figures given by the UN do not include territories seized by Daesh.
