A U.N. spokesman says that the organization has resumed its distribution of food and essential aid to Palestinian refugees living inside the besieged Yarmouk refugee camp.
Chris Gunness, spokesman for UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, told The Associated Press that after the Syrian government granted the organization aid on Thursday, food and medicine were delivered to those in need.
Yarmouk refugee camp lies in a rebel-held district of the Syrian capital and has suffered from major shortages of food and medicine. At least Palestinians are reported to have died from hunger and malnutrition as the regime refused aid to be delivered into the camp. Yarmouk is one of the hardest-hit opposition enclaves under tight blockades imposed by forces loyal to President Bashar Assad, AP reported.
Earlier this week, Chris Gunness told Ma'an News Agency that "the fate particularly of women and children from Yarmouk was of growing concern" due to the continued lack of access to the camp.
