The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and US Cisco Systems are planning to launch a training program in Jordan to enhance women's participation in the information technology sector, reported the Jordan Times on Tuesday.

The first phase of the project will be a 17-day workshop entitled Achieving E-Quality in the Information Technology Sector in Jordan, which is designed to empower women in the kingdom and targets female instructors and students.

It also aims at building strong networks and partnerships between governmental educational institutions, private sector and policy makers to increase their competitiveness in the growing job market, said the paper.

Organizers said the $2 million project, which was endorsed by the ministry of planning in July 2001, reflected “UNIFEM's pioneering initiative work in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah's ambitions for the Kingdom.” – Albawaba.com
