United Arab Emirates state minister for external affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nuhayyan begins a two-day official visit to Tehran on Sunday, the second since last July.

A UAE source told the Kuwait News Agency that Sheikh Hamdan is to deliver a written message from UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nuhayyan to Iranian leader Mohammed Khatami, focusing on bilateral relations.

Sheikh Hamdan is also expected to meet with Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi as well as top Iranian officials, the source added.

Sheikh Hamdan visited the Iranian capital last July to congratulate Khatami on his re-election for another presidential term.

Muhamed Abtuhi, the director of the Iranian president's office, visited Abu Dhabi last year congratulating the safe return of Sheikh Zayed from a treatment trip abroad. (Albawaba.com)
