Universitas 21 Global, the world's premier online Graduate School, launched its Master of Science in Information Systems Management (MISM) program today. The degree will play a significant role in equipping more people to qualify for and meet the IT related job requirements of the region’s increasingly digital economy.
The number of Information Technology (IT) companies in the Arab region has grown exponentially in the past few years, especially with the success of the Dubai Internet & Media Cities which are attracting the best firms in the world. This phenomenon, in tandem with the region’s ongoing move to a digital economy, is creating a corresponding demand for high quality IT talent.
“Information Technology is a dynamic, constantly evolving field characterized by constant change, with human capital being the only vital constant required for IT companies to progress and succeed. A logical follow up to the ongoing shift to e-currency and e-government in the UAE and neighbouring countries, is an increased demand for qualified IT management professionals. For although pure technical skills are widely available, it is the combination of technical savvy, soft-skills and management skills that determines the effectiveness of today’s IT professional and the success of a forward-looking organization,” said Vikram Tah, Director Recruitment, Middle East & Africa, Universitas 21 Global.
The program, slated to commence in February 2006, is organised into eight competency clusters - Enterprise Business Solutions, eServices, IT Governance, Organisational Change, Project Management, Solutions Development, Strategic Improvement and Technology Architecture. This enables students to select and develop key competencies that are relevant to their needs, interests and aspirations while equipping them with technology management skills.
To qualify for admission into the MISM program, applicants require a basic degree, two years relevant IT work experience, a statement of motivation for success through a 500-word essay and two references. Applicants whose first language is not English will need an English language qualification (TOEFL or IELTS).
The program which requires completion of 12 subjects is conducted completely online, providing a tremendous amount of flexibility to executives who are unable to take up traditional university programs due to work and travel commitments. Professionals who do not have the time to undertake the MISM program or wish to focus on a specific area can opt for the Executive Diploma or one of the two Executive Certificate programs available. Students are required to complete eight subjects and four subjects respectively for these programs. Upon completion of either of these programs, students will have the option of enrolling into a higher program with advanced standing, transferring the credit already earned.
