The 2-day event, organized by the Internship and Career Development Center at UD was well attended by representatives of some of the city’s leading and well-known companies such as Emirates Airlines, Barclays Bank, Citibank, Emirates NBD Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Dubai Bank, DEWA, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Customs, Unilever, Shangri-la Hotel, Oman Insurance Company, Ershaad.ae, and Pathways Resourcing.
Dr Omar Hefni said: “We, at the University of Dubai are very proud to hold our first career fair at our campus. This event provides an invaluable opportunity for both students and prospective employers to directly interact and gain a first hand account of what each side expects. In a rapidly changing world, where technological progress bridges time and distance, awareness remains the key to growth. And as one of the top educational institute in the UAE, our vision is to turn out well facetted individuals with the drive and ambition to make a true difference to society.”
Talking about the event, Sheikh Mohammed bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UDAA, said “We hope this 2-day career fair opportunity held University of Dubai, my alma mater, will lead young graduates to follow-up their personal interviews by continuing to demonstrate to the employers, their skills and suitability for the position on offer. Looking at the success rate in today’s UD career fair we intend to make it an annual feature and involve more companies and even the community that we operate in. This is a part of our corporate responsibility to the UAE community through offering the services of our qualified UD graduates.”
The students greatly benefited from the Career Fair as they were able to meet company representatives, gain valuable business contacts and also network with professionals. Participating companies also benefited from the event as they had the unique opportunity to interact with both current and newly-graduated students from the Business Administration and Information Technology fields, who might be suitable to fill their current and future vacancies.
Fresh graduates demonstrated the skills they had acquired during their respective courses which are current and based on academic excellence. Thus, some were considered a good fit for the organizational structures of the participating companies and were even invited for follow-up interviews for showing commitment and problem solving ability. The companies admired the university’s world class system of education following an AACSB accreditation - a seal of approval awarded by the globally recognized accreditation agencies to only 5% of the institutions of higher education following independent examination of program quality according to strict criteria thus guaranteeing top international education.
Subsequent to the success of its first Career Fair, the University of Dubai will make the event an annual activity so that students will have the opportunity to explore and select for themselves the most befitting career options.
