The University of Jordan Deploys Microsoft’s Best of Breed Technologies to Provide Quality Services to Students and Staff

University migrates from SUN Mail to Exchange 2007, deploys SharePoint 2007 for Website

The University of Jordan announced that it migrated from SUN Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and deployed Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to enhance its Website. This upgrade came as part of the University’s aim to deploy the best of breed technologies to provide quality services to students and faculty members alike.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 transforms the University’s Website into a service-oriented portal, and Exchange Server 2007 provides e-mail services that are spam free, virus-free and accessible at anytime, anywhere and using any device.

Zeid Shubailat, Country Manager of Microsoft Jordan said, “We are glad to see that the University of Jordan has decided to deploy Microsoft’s technologies as part of its objective to become an educational institution that provides the forward thinking e-learning solutions.” He added, “Microsoft is committed to integrating its cutting edge technology solutions into today's learning environment to help enhance the educational sector in the kingdom.”

Dr. Azzam Sleit, IT Director at the University of Jordan stated, “Technology should be a true enabler for successful business rather than a destiny. At the University of Jordan, our IT strategy calls for employing advanced Microsoft technologies that bring the University to the frontline not only in quality of education but also as an e-learning provider.”He went on to say, “We are also looking to use Microsoft technologies in data warehousing and Business Intelligence.”

Mohammad Helal, Education Lead at Microsoft Jordan and Lebanon stated, “With Exchange Server 2007, the University empowers employees with unified messaging while saving money at the same time. In fact with the new unified messaging in Exchange Server 2007, employees can receive their e-mail, voice mail, and faxes through a single inbox that can be accessed from anywhere.”

Helal continued to say, “Employees can manage all of their messages in one place just as they manage e-mail today. For example, voice mail can be forwarded, or if the recipient adds text notes to the voice mail, messages can be found using built-in search. With Exchange Server 2007, the University can deliver these features while lowering cost and complexity through consolidation of voice mail infrastructure.”

Exchange Server 2007 also provides integrated antivirus, anti-spam and anti-phishing technologies to prevent the latest threats before they impact the business and employees.

It is worth mentioning that the University of Jordan increased its budget on research up to 7 percent, which will be utilizing IT and other tools to perform successful research methods in a variety of areas.
