The need for more qualified and highly skilled professionals in the GCC across all business sectors has resulted in a demand from companies for more fast-track professional development programmes.

Organisations that dedicate effective continuing professional development allow their workforce to reach its full potential and raise company standards, says an expert in professional development.

Mary Mayall, Head of the Professional Development Unit at The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the region’s leading research-based post-graduate university, has organised professional development programmes for a range of organisations that include the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UAE’s Ministry of Education, and pharmaceutical company Merck Serono, since BUiD’s PDU unit launched earlier this year.

According to Mayall, there has been a growing interest across all industry sectors looking to train and develop staff through customised programmes: “We are noticing that companies in the UAE today are finding ways to retain staff and improve standards across all business sectors. There is a need for more qualified professionals in the GCC and, as a result, more companies today are looking for fully customised professional development programmes to meet their business objectives.”

“Following our successful programmes that have taken place this year, we have received very positive feedback from organisations and employees alike, which have led to better leadership skills and  improved workforce productivity,” added Mayall.

BUiD has also expanded its academic offerings following the recent launch of BUiD’s master’s programme in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution earlier this month. A need has also been identified for professional development programmes in these areas.

Continuing professional development courses in all disciplines offered at BUiD, which include: Education, Finance and Banking, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, IT Management, Project Management, Systems Engineering, Construction Law and Dispute Resolution, and Sustainable Design of the Built Environment.

Under BUiD’s professional development unit, organisations and individuals have the option of taking independent masters’ units as a ‘continued professional development’ course in their specific area of interest, or programmes can also be tailored to meet the needs of specific client groups.
