Unknown assailants on motor bikes set fire to the main campaign office of Iranian President Mohammed Khatami in Tehran Tuesday, and tore down the posters carrying his photos, an official said, quoted by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
He added that many of Khatami’s supporters, heading his campaign offices in various provinces, have been threatened by unknown groups or individuals.
In one incident, he added, a stone was thrown at the home of the head of Jajerom election office and his family had received threatening letters.
Khatami is one of ten candidates for the June 8 presidential elections.
On Monday, Khatami told a crowd of some 30,000 that he would persevere with democratic reforms despite all hardships if re-elected next month.
"What we want is reform in all areas -- political, economic and social," Khatami said at the only scheduled rally of his campaign ahead of the June 8 elections. "The road is long and there are many obstacles in our way," he said – Albawaba.com
