Hundreds of Iranian textile workers held a rally in front of Parliament on Tuesday to demand their unpaid salaries, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA), quoting a local press report.
The Persian daily Resaalat said a further demonstration resulted in a short scuffle between protestors and security forces in front of the building, but reported no injuries or arrests.
Some 1,700 employees of the textile factory, located in a southern Tehran suburb in Rey, have occasionally demonstrated over the past nine months for unpaid salaries.
They were said to have been laid off by the plant's new owners after the factory was sold late last year.
"After the privatization of the plant, the factory has become inactive and some 1,650 employees have not received salaries for the past nine months," Resaalat said.
An official at the Bonyad Mostazafan and Janbazan Foundation, which initially owned the plant, was quoted as saying that the sale of the factory, one of the oldest textile factories in Iran, was "within the framework of the law" and ruled out the state buying it back – Albawaba.com
