The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has decided to close its Sidon and Tyre offices in southern Lebanon, Palestinian officials said Monday.

The officials in Ain el-Helweh refugee camp, close to the port city of Sidon told reporters that UNRWA would run its aid operations for the south from its Beirut offices, according to AFP.

The transfer will oblige tens of thousands of Palestinians in south Lebanon to travel to the Lebanese capital for any formalities, they added.

UNRWA provides food rations, schooling and medical assistance to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, whose number the United Nations estimates at 375,000. (Albawaba.com)
