At least six have been killed in Yemen on Thursday after clashes between rival forces closed down Aden International Airport, Reuters reported.
Special forces attacked the Aden area, where supporters of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi defended the airport and deployed tanks. The attackers were loyalists of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, an ally of the Houthi movement.
Officials said all flights have been canceled and the airport shut down due to the violence.
Aden became a stronghold for President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi when he escaped from Yemen's Houthi-controlled capital. The country has been divided since the Shiite militants overtook Sanaa and forced the president to resign.
The international community has not recognized Houthi power and brought Hadi back into the limelight when he announced the withdrawal of his resignation and fleed to the port city.
Hadi has said he recognizes Aden to be the new capital of Yemen.
