Iran's reaction to the US ban on Iranian nationals entering the country will not be retroactive, unlike the corresponding US policy, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.
"Unlike the U.S., our decision is not retroactive. All with valid Iranian visa will be gladly welcomed," Zarif on Twitter.
"While respecting Americans & differentiating between them &hostile U.S. policies, Iran will take reciprocal measures to protect citizens," Zarif wrote.
Tehran reacted fiercely on Saturday to an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump barring people from several Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.
The US order would exacerbate the divisions between the West and the Islamic world, and therefore play into the hands of terrorists, Iranian authorities said Saturday.
The ban is set to affect many Iranians with relatives in the US from travelling to visit them for Persian New Year in March.
Tehran and Washington have not had a diplomatic relationship for nearly four decades, and Iran is considered one of the United States' foremost geopolitical rivals.
