ALBAWABA - The United States has apparently conducted a covert airborne operation inside Iran to look for pilots thought to have been downed after a recent airstrike.

Special operations personnel were airdropped into a remote location where the aircraft is believed to have crashed, according to sources cited by US media. Finding and removing any surviving crew members while avoiding direct conflict with Iranian forces was the mission's main goal.

Although they have not officially recognized the operation, US defense officials have stated that efforts are still being made to account for people after the strike. The mission's sensitivity is highlighted by the paucity of public details; if confirmed, it would be an unusual and extremely dangerous incursion of US forces inside Iranian soil.

Such recovery operations, sometimes known as personnel recovery or combat search and rescue, are routine military practice, according to analysts, although they are usually carried out in less politically unstable settings. Given the lack of direct military cooperation between the two nations, conducting one inside Iran greatly increases the risks.

Following a number of episodes that have raised concerns of a wider regional escalation, the purported operation coincides with rising tensions between Washington and Tehran. Strong warnings have been issued by both sides in recent days, and there have allegedly been increases in military preparation.

Any proven US ground deployment inside Iran, according to security analysts, may spark a strong reaction and widen the conflict. Others, however, point out that these missions are frequently made to be quick, narrowly targeted, and only concerned with human rescue.

The reports have not received an official response from Iranian authorities.
