ALBAWABA - A spokesperson to the US National Security Council (NSC) said that the killing of five World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza is "troubling" and urged the Israeli government to "swiftly investigate what happened."
NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson stressed that "humanitarian aid workers must be protected as they deliver aid that is desperately needed."
An Israeli strike targeted the vehicle of foreign workers near Deir el-Balah on al-Rashid Street resulting in the death of at least five, including foreigners, according to non-profit group World Central Kitchen and authorities in Gaza.
According to Al-Jazeera, Australian, Polish, UK and Palestinian aid workers were killed after Israeli attacked their vehicle in the Gaza Strip.
Nonetheless, Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese has offered condolences to the family and friends of Australian Lalzawmi "Zomi" Frankcom, who was killed among several World Central Kitchen aid workers.
Australia also called the Israeli ambassador to ask for "full accountability" regarding the attack on foreign workers.
World Central Kitchen posted on Instagram condemning the death of its aid workers. It said: "We are aware of reports that members of the World Central Kitchen team have been killed in an IDF attack while working to support our humanitarian food delivery efforts in Gaza."
The nonprofit organization also added: "This is tragedy." "Humanitarian aid workers and civilians should NEVER be a target. EVER."
