US Energy Secretary Bill Richardson called on Saturday for oil at 20-25 dollars a barrel, warning that at 30 dollars it was damaging developing countries.
"Thirty dollars is too high," he told a press conference on the second day of the International Energy Forum in Riyadh.
"It hurts consuming countries, especially developing ones," Richardson said. "We should not accept 30 dollars a barrel."
However he added that 10 dollars a barrel was too low and that the United States favored a range of between 20 and 25 dollars a barrel.
The forum has gathered around 400 delegates, including many energy ministers, to seek better cooperation between consumers and producers at a time when oil has hit heights not seen since the 1991 Gulf War -- RIYADH (AFP)
