Five U.S. servicemen have died in attacks around Baghdad. A representative of the U.S. command said on Monday the incidents occurred in different parts of the Iraqi capital on Sunday.
Three soldiers died in an attack on their patrol, and two other Americans died as a result of explosions of mines planted on the road. By these latest deaths raising October's death toll among U.S. troops has risen to 86.
This month's toll is already the highest of any month during 2006, surpassing that of 76 in April. The pace of U.S. deaths will likely not make the month the deadliest in about two years, since 137 were killed in November 2004.
