US energy giant Enron Corp. signed a deal with Arab Bank Monday to build a 150-million-dollar electricity generating plant in the Gaza Strip, the bank's regional director said.
Shukri Beshara told the press that the bank will finance 60 percent of the project, with the balance open to subscription by individual Palestinians.
Construction of the 140-megawatt plant is aimed at reducing the Palestinian-inhabited Gaza Strip's dependence on supplies of electricity from Israel.
The plant should go on line at the end of this year, a senior Enron executive said - GAZA CITY (AFP)
