Warplanes from a US-British coalition bombed air defense sites in the northern part of Iraq Tuesday after coming under anti-aircraft artillery fire while patrolling a no-fly zone, the US military said, according to AFP.

The anti-aircraft artillery fired from positions northeast of the city of Mosul while the aircraft patrolled the no-fly zone, the US European Command said in a statement. "Coalition aircraft responded in self-defense to the Iraqi attacks by dropping precision guided munitions on elements of the Iraqi integrated air defense system," the command stated. (Albawaba.com)
